Opportunities for College Students

Historic Sandusky offers students an out of classroom setting to work and learn through; internships, assistantships, special projects, field trips and research opportunities. Sandusky’s library, document archives, and collections provide a variety of options for student research, scholarship, and publication.

 

Historic Sandusky offers students numerous opportunities to get involved in a variety of museum operations including:

Internships

Internships are available at Historic Sandusky year-round to all local students.

 

Graduate Assistantships 

Two graduate assistantships are provided to University of Lynchburg Graduate students. A background in history or museum studies is preferred, but all academic backgrounds are considered. The assistantship gives students the opportunity to work closely with Director Greg Starbuck on organizing the museum’s collections, researching details of the home and its occupants, as well as interacting with the public. Historic Sandusky Library

Also at Historic Sandusky, you can find a library focused on the Civil War and the City of Lynchburg's History. Access to this library is granted through the University of Lynchburg. To gain access to the Sandusky Library Catalog via the Knight Capron-Library visit the Library's LibGuide at libraryguides.lynchburg.edu/historicsandusky

 

Sandusky also offers opportunities for students to set up research appointments with Sandusky staff. At a research appointment, you can...

  • work one-on-one  to review Historic Sandusky holdings related to the research 

  • answer questions related to the Historic Sandusky house and grounds

  • explain collection policies and procedures

  • discuss loans of Historic Sandusky materials to students

Tours of Historic Sandusky are currently only available by appointment. Please call or email us in advance to set up a time to visit. Visitors may also take a self-guided tour using our self-guided tour brochure available outside at the visitor center.
